This morning I read something very disturbing. Not that unusual, actually, but this really strikes me at the core.

Even as the last Bush term has finally entered countdown, the fear and intimidation of regular citizens continues. Particularly, the ones who are holding up what’s left of our Constitution, are being harassed. Right up to the end.
Another journalist is being threatened with jail unless he reveals his sources. Because, in the course of investigating illegal activities in the government, he, ah, may have embarassed the President. And what does this have to do with me? With anybody? Because here I am, actually expressing an opinion, in print. And what if somebody disagrees with me? What if that somebody would rather I didn't print my opinons? Or any other opnions they didn't agree with, for that matter? Well, if they had the power, the connections in high places, if they owned the internet provider, for example ... they could just shut me down. And threaten everybody else that didn't play on their team.
So, what country are we in, now?
Today, “Super Tuesday”, as it has been deemed by our great and powerful media, I get to go out and cast my vote for the replacement. Is there anybody out there who hasn’t dropped out of the race that would put a stop to this nonsense once and for all?
With all the issues being thrown around, health care, the War in Iraq, the great/poor economy (depends on which side of the dollar you’re on), immigration, etc., the one issue most important to me is not on anybody’s radar. At least not on CNN.
Who is going to give the Constitution back to the PEOPLE?

It's frightening. I've heard some people say, "What's one journalist? It's not a big deal." But the big deal is that it's a slippery slope. And with just the threat out there sources won't be as likely to reveal themselves because they know some journalists might give up their names if they had to.
Welcome, booklady, to the land of chocolate (with just a smidge of opinion on top).
I'd like to say that threats won't stop the opinions, but that really depends on the stakes.
